Cobalt 226…Adding underwater exhaust

Thru hull exhaust question…I see lots of discussion about adding thru hull, but not the other way around… I am looking at a Cobalt 226 with 496 Mag and Bravo 1 outdrive. The boat currently has only Thru hull exhaust. I love captains call, but full time through hull is a bit much for a boat for the family. What are the options for adding in water exhaust. I am guessing it’s not as simple as adding captains call to a boat with in water exhaust.

What would I be looking at? New manifolds? A Y pipe? Just looking at what my options would be and how much work I’m looking at. I really like the boat other than this one issue…Thanks in advance!

Your transom assembly has a block off plate where a Y pipe would connect. You would have to remove the engine to get to it. Then install a Y pipe. I imagine your existing manifolds are probably the same as what would come with a boat with underwater exhaust. Post some pictures and we will be able to tell you for sure. Then of course you would need some rubber hoses to connect your elbows to a captains call valve and all the other pipes to your existing through hull exhaust.

Captains call means you have actuators and can switch between thru-hull and thru-leg for the exhaust

Do you have actuators?
Can you add actuators?

Could just add turn down tips

Post a picture of your engine bay, you MAY already have the Y-pipe. My first Baja had thru-hull only, but had been installed at the dealership...not factory...and so the Y-pipe was there but "blocked off".
Also please clarify if you have a true selective exhaust option, i.e. 'Captain's Call', 'Silent Choice', etc. I can't imagine you do from your post description. Perhaps you meant to say, "I love the sound of the thru-hull but it can be a bit much"...?

Thank you all! The boat is currently at a dealer in another state. I don’t have any detailed photos of the engine, but have asked for some. As soon as they send I will post. I am told that the boat currently is not set up for captains call, but that is from a salesman, so idk how much he knows about what other components may or may not already be installed. I would plan on adding all the actuators. But I don’t want to have to pull the engine.

If it doesn’t have a Y pipe, is that something that the engine HAS to come out to be able to install? I am willing to finagle it in if possible, even if that meant removing an engine Mount or something to get some extra play, but total engine removal is a bit more than I would be willing to do. I have attached the only pic of the engine I have so far.

I am told the boat currently only has thru hull. I need to be able to quiet that down! But if I was able to convert to in water, I would also add the actuators, switches at that time to make the exhaust selectable.

there is no way to install it without pulling the motor, unless you cut it up into 3 pieces, then weld it back together underneath and behind the motor..

Thank you all for the input, the salesman went to ask the mechanic if the boat had the Y pipe installed and was told it actually already has captains call… I thought it was strange to only have thru hull on a boat like this but was told by the salesman it was not selectable… can’t trust those salesmen… lol

so you have captains call, and just need to flip the switch to run quieter thru the leg

To be sure, ask for a picture just like mine to be taken...to clearly see it all...
