Cobra Shift Cable and Trim Sender problem

All summer it seemed my boat was hard to shift into gear, and when I shifted the trim indicator would boune around, and sometimes seem inop. After pulling the boat off the lift yesterday, I noticed the oarange cable was actually going around the trim sender in the rear by the piviot housing. Is the cable too long? Surley it is not designed to loop out so far as to make contact with the trim sender is it?
Thanks

The cable should NOT contact the trim sender.
The orange shift cable should slide in and out of the transom housing as you trim the drive down and up. I'd guess your is not sliding in as you trim down and it causes the cable to bend. You need to find out what is keeping the cable from moving. It might be something inside the engine compartment.
