I have an 1983 90 hp inline six that shows a spark to the plugs one day and the next day has no spark. I can get the coils, switch box and stator from someone, but his motor is a 1996 xr4.Will these parts interchange?
The switch-boxes will interchange but the stator will not as its a 40amp and forget the coils as they rarely fail, I can count on both hands the failed coils that I have changed in 35 years of servicing these engines...
I would do some simple diagnostics before I started swapping parts. The problem may be in the kill wires or key switch. Go to the CDI site and check out the diagnostic checks.
