I have an 1983 johnson 70hp it is dropping the bottom cyindler. I have rebuilt the carbs, change out the fuel system( hoses, tanks, primerbulb, fittings). T he bottom plug is not fireing I change it to the middle plug it did not spark there either. So I think I have a bad coil. My question is how do I replace it all of the coils are wired into a plug which I think goes to the power pack. The manual says there is a special tool to take it apart. is there anther way? if not where do i get this tool? thanks to everyone for there help

Re: coil help

I 'm not sure I understand the question ,but the coil can be removed by unplugging and removing one pin from the amphenol connector, disconnecting a ring terminal, and removing the mounting bolt.

Re: coil help

thank you so much for trying to help me out . I guess what I am not understanding is how to get the wire for the coil out of that amphenol connector, and the new one back in.thanks

Re: coil help

I know the tool you're talking about. I don't have one but you can probable get one at an electronics supply house. Amphenol plugs are pretty common.

c/6

Hooty
