coil problem? 1979 johnson 25hp seahorse magflash

i just changed the boats thermostat because it was over heating. it would run for about 2-3 min. then would bog down then just shut down. i took the cover of and try to touch the top of the engine but it was way to hot to even get close. so i changed the thermostat and took it out again. got to about the same place on the lake and about 2-3 min. of running time and the engine did the same thing. but the engine wasnt hot at all. so i was wondering if it could be the coil that needs to be replaced also. or how to check to see if the coil is bad. i need help and will take any advice thanks for looking.,:facepalm:

i just wanted to know if this could be bad gas, powerpack, fuel pump. i mean its hard to get started but once it starts it runs but once u get it up full throttle and once at full throttle for about 2min or so it just sounds like it loses power then just nothing shuts right down. then it hard to get it started again. might take a while then it will fire up and the same thing over again weird.

Does it help if you keep squeezing the primer bulb, thinking fuel pump. Have you checked spark when the problem happens, thinking ign componet overheating and shutting down.

i just bought the boat a couple of months ago. the person i bought it from said that it had been sitting for 2 years. so when i was looking through the fuel system of the boat i looked in the gas tank to see if anything was floating around and nothing. next i checked the fuel line from the tank to bulb. next from bulb to hook up on motor. i then squeezed the bulb and it started leaking fuel out of the hose that goes from the hook up to the fuel pump. then i pumped it again and there was a little fuel leaking from the hose that goes from fuel pump to the carbs. so what im thinking is that when i pump the bulb to start the motor it wouldnt get completely hard. so it was just enough fuel to start and run for a while. then it was sucking more air than fuel and leaking. dry rotted hose i will change out tomorrow and try it all over again. but i will take your suggestion into mind next if it doesnt work. do you think this could be the problem or do you think there is more. have you ever had this happen. im new to the boat motor world but i am handy with other engine. plus its my first boat. i hope its that easy of a fix. thanks for your time and your reply.

If you have a known problem, fuel leak, fix it first before going on.

thanks for the info i think its just one of many problems ill run into. with an engine sitting around for 2 years. bound for some dry rot of seals and hoses. thanks for your responds
