I recently burnt up the old electronic ignition condenser in my 5.7 volvo penta. couldnt find another similar to replace with. i ended up putting a points and condenser one in. replaced plugs, wires, points, and condenser. im getting 10 volt with key on and 4 volts while running. the coil has 1.7 ohm on the secondary and 10k ohms on the primary. the motor starts, idles, and runs really well. my question is, are theses the correct voltages? i dont want to get stranded again.

How are you measuring the voltage? You should measure from the positive side of the coil to ground, not to the negative side of the coil which you maybe doing.

Do you have a ballast resistor before your coil or is your coil internally resisted?
