My best guess would be that if the motor won't run, but will crank or can be cranked with a cord, you can hook up the tester to each plug hole and get a reading from each to ascertain any differences between them. Normally, you do it after the motor has warmed up either while running or by using the starter with plugs removed.

Checking the compression when the engine is cold. Usually it's okay to do a compression test cold because all you're doing is comparing one cylinder's pressure reading to the other(s).<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty
