I am having problems starting one of my twin 1997 Evinrude 115's. It seems to be very cold natured requiring many start attempts (8-12) before idling correctly. The motor will sputter for a several seconds only to shut off thereafter. Once the motor has been running (idleing) for some time 5-10 minutes, it starts on the first key turn every time. The other engine starts first/second key turn every time. Both fuel seperators have been replaced, spark plugs, the chokes appear to be functioning correctly. Does this sound like a fuel/carberator problem, electrical ?. Anybody have any ideas.

Thanks in advance,

WH

You forgot to mention which 115's you have but neither model have chokes. They use a primer type system which injects fuel into the motor.

If you have the 60 degree looper style (115E, S or G models) check and verify it is going into Quick Start mode. It should idle higher for a short time when its first started just like your auto.

No matter which model you have, are you positive the primer is working? When the motor is running push the key in to activate the primer. The motor should flood out. Take the hood off and look at the primer to make sure the cap or lines are not leaking when its activated.

Good luck!
