Why is my Volvo 230 not equipped with a choke? When starting it cold I have to keep the idle at about 1200 R's for a few minutes to warm it up. After that it starts and idles fine.

Would an electric fuel pump be a good idea on this or should I put all my faith in the mechanical one?

And,what is your starting procedure? Some carbs require pushing the throttle control all the way forward to set the choke, then pull it back just above idle then start the engine.

Volvo never put chokes on any of the 4 cyl, OHC engines. And yes, they are cold natured and take some warming up before you try to go anywhere.
The fuel pump is NOT the problem.

Thanks Don. I guess that's what I needed to know. I'll just make sure she warms up before we hit the lake.

Re: Cold natured

I know the fuel pump isn't causing the cold start issue, I was just wanting your take on electric fuel pumps for this engine. Thanks
