Cold Start 1975 115 Johnson v4

My motor runs great once started. In order to start it, I have to spray fuel into the carbs. I have it primed from the tank and once I run it for about 5 minutes....I have no issue restarting it. Once, I ran out of gas, switched tanks and she started right up. Any ideas why this would be?
