I HAVE A 1976 I THINK EVINRUDE 135HP V4 .. WHEN ATEMPTING TO COLD START THE MOTOR IT DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO FIRE UP . YOU COULD WIND THE MOTOR FOR AN HOUR AND NOTHING, BUT WITH A SMALL SHOT OF STARTING FLUID IT STARTS RIGHT UP AND RUNS FINE , IT WILL EVEN RESTART NO PROB..ONCE IT IS WARMED UP. THE CHOKE LOOKS LIKE IT IS WORKING.
COULD TIMING OR IGNITION AIDE TO THIS PROBLEM.
THANK YOU !!!

Re: COLD START !

Good morning. (Please don't use all capitols sounds as if your shouting ;) ) I would suspect your carbs need a good cleaning. Starter fluid is Bad nasty stuff for a motor. Some people use regular pre-mix (50:1) in an oil squirt can to accomplish the same thing. (seriously stay away from starter fluid there are No oils in in and it will damage the motor)

Have the choke circuit checked or maybe you have an "enrichment circuit" which shoot more gas into the manifolds. Best way to tell is to see if you have true choke flaps on the carbs....if you do not then you have an enrichment circuit. If its choke flaps make sure they close all the way when activated (pressing in your key when starting) if it is an enrichment circuit remove the line and press in the key...this will give the additional shot of fuel to start.

Bob

Re: COLD START !

Hey there , if ya don't have a cold start enricher, just salvage one off a newer motor , i just modified an 83 mariner and the darn thing starts better that a brand new one. Used an enricher from a johson engine. Don't use ether for starting. use carb cleaner or old wd40 if ya have too .
