I have a little trouble cold starting my volvo penta. I press the neutral button on the throttle handle, shift forward and back about 10 to 15 times to pump the fuel then back to neutral and start, it doesnt go. I feel there is no fuel going to the carburator. I press the button again, push forward, start and let it warm up, then go back to neutral its ok.

Once its going, no issus at all. Starts right up anytime after that.

I feel there is no fuel going to the carburator on a cold start, or pushing the handle back and forth is not doing anything. I have replaced the fuel filter. Any suggetsions?

The carb may be leaking fuel out of the bowl or if there is enough time between the last start it may have evaporated.

If it ran yesterday and you have trouble today, then the carb may be leaking out

If it was a few to several days ago, then it just evaporated

If its been a while, push the throttle forward once to set the choke. Bring throttle back but not all the way to pop out the neutral only. Now crank the motor for 10 seconds and stop

Pump the throttle a couple times (by this time fuel should be in the carb) and try to start again.

If it does not start after a couple seconds, pump a couple more and try again

Thanks AllDodge, this only happens after a week of no use, I agree that fuel must be evaporating which sounds normal. When you say "push the throttle forward once to set the choke" do you mean, push it forward after pressing the neutral button or without it?

Kenny, it's a 3.0 GLP-E.

You might want to look down in the throttle body after removing the flame arrestor to see if fuel squirts from the accelerator nozzles while someone pumps the throttle lever. This must be a Holley carburetor. If you have been using Ethanol based fuel the accelerator pump diaphragm has turned to hard plastic and will not flex .
