I have a 1105 merc motor that runs great...once it is warm. Cold starting is a head ache. But once it starts for the first time it will fire right up for the rest of the day. If I spray a short burst of starting fluid (the one with lube) into each of the three carbs it will start right up. I (seafoam) decarbed the engine but I havent rebuilt the carbs or fuel pump yet. Would this fix the problem?

I am not familiar with an "1105" Merc but if it is an inline four or six outboard of that vintage the first question anyone will ask is if the choke is working. Those models had an choke button that had to be held while cranking a cold engine with the high idle lever advanced enough to maintain an idle after it started.I am pretty sure that you will also see a manual choke button with the top cowling removed that you can lift up to choke the engine manually in the event the electric choke solenoid does not pull in.If you have those items in place and are using them properly you obviously have more problems assuming that the carbs are getting fuel. The primer bulb should feel hard in your hand and the air bleed thumbscrew on the fuel tank cap should be loose so the tank can breathe.Ron G

Don't spray starter fluid in a 2 cycle engine it will damage it, if you have to prime the engine use fuel in a squirt can. The early 115s were hard to start on the first start first you need a high amperage battery as if engine voltage at the switch box drops below 10 volts it won't start but if yours starts right up when primed the a couple of things to check, if the engine has plastic choke butterflies make sure that they seat against the carb throats you might also richen the low speed sdjustment 1/4 turn to help and you can always raise the float level a little if the frirst 2 things don't work

Might try getting a new primer bulb in the fuel line. If ya pump hard and get nothing out the carbs, it might be bypassing...they are a bear cold start though
