hi, I just rebuilt the powerhead on a 9.9 force because I overheated the **** thing.. new heads, new rings etc... it was fun but I don't want to do it again.. my question is how hot should the cylinder heads feel and how hot is too hot and how can I make sure the cooling system is running properly (keep in mind the imperller is fine and a constant stream of water is running out of the water exhaust) is there some type of thermometer or something I can attach to the cylinder head ... I'm just paranoid about overheating the engine again I guess
thanks
sincerely,
scott

Hey SStirling
Welcome to iboats. The head should be hot but not hot enough that you can't touch it with your bare hand. If you are just checking the operating temp and not looking for a permanent check, try using melts sticks. They are like a crayon, you draw a line with it on the head and when the line melts, it has reached the temperature rating of the stick. They can be purchased for different temperatures. If you have a manual it will tell what temperature sticks you need to buy. If you don't have one, get one as it has many other useful information.

Just my $.02 worth
Good Luck
