color of oil

what color should the oil be in a 73 merc 140hp?

probably a stupid question, but i've never actually looked at marine engine oils before... :redface:

It should be Oil colored........

Mine is Mobil 1, 15W-50 colored...........

brand new, oil colored (whatever yer favoirte flavor is) to dirty black engine oil.
what ya don't want to see is chocolate milk colored oil.........water intrusion.....

hehe...oil as mentioned should be oil colored. Amber (fresh), dark amber used and blackish to black (time to change oil). Milky color or Mocha = water in the oil.

thats what I was wondering becuase thats what I thougt. I got water in the oil...

Change it and then run it, see if the oil turns milky again. If not it was probably condensation. If it does then you have a leak some where. Head gasket, cracked head or cylinder, exhaust manifold leak or elbow leak, intake manifold leak etc. Check all your plugs, see if any water is getting into the cylinders.
