I have a mid 70s 1150 Merc that has damage on the lower unit due to freezing (ice). I dont know if I can repair it, but I assume it would be easiest and most cost effective to put a used lower unit on.
I think I read in the forum that many different HP engines used a common lower unit, can anyone tell me what HP range (i.e. 85 thru 150 etc.) used the same lower unit as the 1150?
This will be a winter project, and the local buy sell magazine typically has lots of broken motors for sale cheap, I just need to know what to look for.

Re: COMMON LOWER UNIT FOR 1150

The 4 and 6 cylinder inline motors (80-140 HP and '73-'77 150 HP) shared lower units in the '70s and '80s. Some of the 4 cylinder motors had a different gear ratio. i.e. your motor had a 2::1 gear ratio, and the 85HP inline 4 had a 1.85::1 gear ratio. You should be able to find a LU from an inline six, they were very popular motors.
