Re: Commuting...

I spent 20+ years working for my dad, After I left it was the best times of my life. Sometimes family deals are a pain in the a$$. Not trying to make a decesion for you, Im just trying to suggest that the branch office you open after the training period belongs to MR. & MRS. E.E. Boater

LOL, but it's often true alden. We all gots lots o' good advice, and it's cheap too! ;)

Hey EE, ya might get some better opinions if you expressed the amount of time this might take. Having not done so, maybe you don't have a clue. In that event I would forget about it. Ya can't leave a young wife alone for an indeterminate period of time.

How long could it really take? Maybe you could just go for a solid month, learn the basics, see what ya have to see and then come home and wing it.

At any rate it sounds like there is some gamble too it. I guess you'd have to quit what you are doing just to see if the Dad thing MIGHT work out???

If that's the missus under your name - the gal in the red sweater and shorts - I would be home every night for several reasons.

Re: Commuting...

I'm with SwampNut if Mrs. eeboater is too . . .

In the competition for worst commute . . . I commuted to England once a month for a year. Monday through the following Friday and then I worked outa the house here the rest of the month. The balance was OK and in some ways it actually helped our relationship, but never say stuff like "I was talking to the lady next door" or "at my other house"

Very tough with the kids though (which I understand is not an issue); the whole dynamic of our family was changing. The worst thing was "we don't do it that way anymore" . . . I would even get that from our youngest who was eight then

Re: Commuting...

So how long will the commute situation last? 3 months, 6 months, a year?

If you can keep this to under 6 months, it is very doable, and no reason not to try it.

Isn't he near Cleveland ?

You can fly direct from MKE to CLE pretty cheap, $206 roundtrip taxes included. That would save some stress, time, gas money, and miles on the vehicle.
Continental, 2451, 6:55pm > 9:14pm
or 3230 , 4:00pm > 6:15pm

return flight 2590, 8:50pm > 9:10pm
or return 2401, 4:45pm > 5:04pm

(cheaptickets.com)

Just a thought.
