Working on an old 500mhz compaq, basement computer.

Hard drive is making a VERY bad knocking/clicking sound, evident that it is very soon going to crash.

So I need to remove it, mirror the contents to a replacement HD, so I don't have to start with a fresh install.

16 friggin screws later, I have the hard drive out. The engineers made it so that the side plate gets removed, then rear screws for the other piece that covers 3 sides. Then un-clip the front cover, then there are 5 more screws holding on the FRONT of the 3 side cover.

Then a "convienent" release tab to slide the hard drive out the FRONT of the case instead of the inside.

I'll give Dell and IBM cudo's. The new IBM machines we have at work, they are the size of a VCR, I was leary at first to work on them until I realize, everything hinges open, not a single screw on the thing. Dell's usually work the same way, they have finally put some thought into their cases.

.......I hear machine #2 booting up now, time to transfer some files.

BLEAH!

/rant
