Could anyone tell me if coil number 581032 from a 1973 115 johnson can be used on a 1977 johnson 115 which calls for number 581610?

The part numbers on both have been changed a few times. 581032 is now 502890, and 581610 is now 502888. But I suspect your question concerns if you can replace it with a used coil from another motor. I confess I don't know. It may just be a matter of wire terminals or something. But I'll gamble that if it fits, it will work.

I believe it'll work. '78 was when they changed to plug on leads. So I'd assume '77 has internal leads attached. A la '73.

I was told in service school years ago that you could go back in years with coils but not up. Had to do with the coils resistance affecting the power pack. JMHO.
