Own a Cobra MR F45 D VHF radio. Looking for a compatible GPS that would show way-points and reverse tracking. It only has a black and red bare wire lead that plugs into the radio.
Own a Cobra MR F45 D VHF radio. Looking for a compatible GPS that would show way-points and reverse tracking. It only has a black and red bare wire lead that plugs into the radio.
Most of the chart plotters will work with you VHF (I have Garmin 536S). Will need Cobra cable part number CM140-001. The red and black leads get attached to the GPS and each GPS manufacture changes colors of the wires which are used. Look at the installation instructions to determine which wires to connect.
Definitely do that before you buy. As Alldodge said, most GPS's will connect directly to your DSC-equipped VHF, but not all. My Raymarine a78 touchscreen does NOT output directly in the NMEA standard required. I'd have to buy a Raynet hub to interface it to my VHF. What I did instead was to buy a Standard Horizon VHF with built-in GPS.
