So I have a cdi issue with my 125f6A 86 force 125. Not firing on #3. I recently was able to get my hands on a parts motor that is almost identical except for the timing and ignition. Regardless I got the parts motor for 200 bucks so it's worth it to me. My question is the parts motor is an 1984 125x8a and has some sort of belt driven timing and distributor set up for the ignition. I can't seem to find any info on it as all the diagrams for that model still show cdi and coil packs. Is this some kind of aftermarket installation or maybe a Chrysler thing? And wondering if the distributor and timing belt has better performance than the coil packs? And could I swap it onto my current motor somehow?

The distributor ignition system is the older set up from Chrysler engines mid 60:es.
Chrysler started with dist. ignition system auto typ and then i late 60:es they improved the system with an electronic CD module triggered by the points.
In mid 70:es they put an optical eye (preamp) instead of the points.
In early 80:es they started to use the Prestolite system with CDI box and trigger ring under the flywheel (no distributor).
Maybe your 84 has been modified to the older dist. system.
The newer system with CDI is better and give you some better performance.
The older system need more adjustments and has more moving parts that can give you some problem to adjust it perfect.

Yup Nordins right about someone modifying you donor motor.
Stick with the newer system.
outboardignitiondotcoom has test procedures for both systems.
The newer style on the 86 came with the plug in connectors(not the best)
later 87 until 93-4 used the twin packs either blue or black.
The black is supposed to be the improved product.
You can mix the blue and black but have to cut off the connectors.
Lots of used parts.
Try standard magneto, it might be hard to find on their site but what you need it's there.

Awesome I will give it a try.. Them power packs are just so damn expensive. Lol.. Been replacing everything around it with no luck probably could of just replaced the it in there first place. Just didn't think it would fire one cylinder and not the other.. thought if it was bad I'd lose them both but the more reading I guess it's a pretty common thing

The pack is designed to fire 2 cylinders.
There's a blocking diode in there so you can have spark on one but not the other.
Sometimes no spark on one is the stator. Try swapping the packs around and see if the no fire follows the change?
