Does anyone happen to know what power-head is compatible with a 1986 40 horsepower Evinrude?

I'm thinking about buying a 40hp 1989 powerhead, But want to make sure it will work on the 1986

Powerhead base gasket is same number also, but worried about shift mechanism. 1989 is the first year of the new midsection, gearcase, TNT, etc. This can be a tricky motor to get a powerhead for. They changed the shift li gage boss on them in different years.
