Carb kit rebuild on 1990 Johnson 50 HP VJ50BELESR

So my carb rebuild went well, and I took a tonne of pictures along the way. Here is a link to the album:

http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x175/pmaloney1974/Carb Rebuild/

I have no plans of deleting or moving that album.

I have added some text descriptions at each picture.

My hope is that someone rebuilding carbs and following some of the great tutorials on this site will be able to also use these pictures as a guide to help with the existing tutorials.

Use these as you see fit.

I welcome feedback about these pictures as well.

What did you do for the "special tool" for removing jets and intermediate orifice? Thanks

The only jet I couldn't get was the one in the bottom of the bowl. The other jet was accessible with one of the bits from my multi bit driver.....

I was lucky in that my high speed jet was pretty clean. If I need to do this type of job again I'm going to get the special tool for sure....

I hope the pictures help someone. It's really not a complicated or terribly difficult job.

in picture "th_100_0971.jpg" I can see you have a broken\missing part incase you are unaware.. It is a plastic roller that rides inside the "C" shaped area on the advance cam.

see it here in this diagram, it is part #432572, looks like a clear plastic hose over the pin that pushes on the cam. There is another just like it around the lower carb linkage. Look in the bottom of your engine for pieces of it broken off. Its the way I noticed mine, all of them in my engine had cracked apart and fell off.

Wow...observant.

The shop replaced it when I put it in to get link and synced.

You're right....I had no idea I was missing something.

Regarding the high speed jet. I'm in Canada and we have had the Home Depot chain of stores here for the past ten plus years. I believe Home Depot is from the U.S. so you should have some luck here if they carry the same product lines and I think they do as much of what I get there is made in the U.S.A. One day I was there looking at hand tools and I noticed they had a Fuller - 3/16 flat blade screw driver. I bought it and ground down the flared top part of the blade a little and have used it ever since to get the High Speed Jets out. Worked like a charm. Rick.
P.S. It is the only Fuller tool I own as I think they are generally inferior quality but I'm sure glad I have the one.

I have just used a 3 inch, #8, deck screw to get my plastic seats out of my 1975 9.9Hp Evinrude. I just come in contact with them, give the screw a little clockwise turn until it bites into it, and then pull her out.

Of course a lot of carb cleaner and compressed air follows right after just in case any piece chewed off.

In looking at your carb photos, It looks like the float is upside down. The tab on the float arm, for adjusting float drop, should be facing the needle and seat.
