Does a complete aluminum boat kit exist out there anywhere? More specifically, something in the 16-18' V-Bottom. A utility type would be fine. It has to be a riveted construction. When I say compete kit, I am referring to everything from the pre-cut aluminum to sealer, rivets, everything needed to put the boat together and put it in the water.

Lots of places sell what you want, they are call new boats. Already assembled and ready to go. Now there are plenty of plans available out there, but the material is up to you.

Re: Complete kit

Specmar makes the best kits I've seen. These are welded boats not riveted. Welded boats are much easier to build. If you use a upright build form it's pretty much plug n play. You have to invest in a good MIG welder with either a spool gun or a push-pull torch. You can TIG weld it if you have a lot of time but you better know what you're doing or you'll warp and shrink the heck out of a bunch of expensive material.

Typically, riveted aluminum boats are made from 7000 series aluminum for it's strenght and are factory production boats. They use really thin plating compared to a welded boat. 7000 series aluminum is not weldable so everything you do has to be either riveted or bolted. Doesn't leave you with a lot of options.

YD. I know that I am new to the forum, but please read the question before making some sort of conceted response. To the best of my ability I discribed SPECIFICALLY a 16-18' V-BOTTOM. UTILITY type would be ok. RIVITED was a SPECIFIC criteria. Please forgive my ignorance. I will never have the knowledge that you aparently have---

All the others, Thanks for the time to respond. I know that I can buy a boat. Kit planes are built and flown everyday. I enjoy the buiding aspects of things. I just didn't know if a "kit" existed like in the world of kit planes. Thanks again guys--

Your right piper.. I thought I read the question correctly ( I assumed you were talking about a rebuild..but questioned the new build ) ..

After reading your OP Im sure now your talking about a build it from scratch boat in a box..

Sorry..my bad ( again :) ) .

I do that from time to time..no offence :) ..

So yes..I dont know of anyone that sells the complete DIY kits for tinnies ( but Ive never checked ;) ). If I have time I will look into this..
