hey everybody , my wife and i just redid our 1969 14' aluminum jon boat. we arigonally paid 50 bucks for the boat and the floorboards with old torn carpet and peeling paint. i have no real before pics, sorry, but i do have a peice of wood that was used as the motor mount.
pic 1

we began by completely stripping ALL the paint from the boat with wire wheels and a 4 inch angle grinder wich took about 2 days in it self.after all was said and clean we cleaned the bottom with deglauser from home depot and then applied a liberal coat of "gluv-it" brand sealer.
wich was followed by a nice coat of interlux " pre-kote" and then 3 coats of interlux sea blue paint.

interior was done with one coat of pre-kote and 2 coats of "blue glow white", but we added a lil bit of the leftover sea blue and made it more like a bright powder blue.

we also redid all the wood for the seats and front deck, which we made flush with the boat rail edge. all wood was covered with marine carpet from lowes and outdoor/marine carpet glue.
the floor carpet matches the bunk carpet on the trailer :)
pic 2

we filled all holes with marine-tex, including 3 holes the size of a quater wich i coverd in duck tape and then covered with marine tex. you cant even tell there was a hole anymore, it cured soo hard.

all hardware was replace with new chrome and stainless steel. cleats on all 4 corners and new handles on the transom and the bow eye.

all new lights were installed including a folding transom light and a new bi-color bow light. utility lights were added just under each seat lip in front of each seat. and a courtesy light added under the front deck to see anchor and rope storage and such.
pic 3

i found a 1/4" aluminum plate in the garage that was just right for a motor mount plate at the transom so as to not scratch new paint. i simply added a cut peice of marine ply to the inner transom so paint woul not be ruined.

the old drain plug was severly cracked and pitted and leeked BAD. so it was sealed and a new on was installed just next door with the brass 3 screw style with square plug.
pic 4

as for the trailer, this is an old motorcycle trailer we got for cheap and rebuilt with all new bunk hardware and bolts and bunk boards and bunk carpet to match interior. new lights were added to pvc side markers. lights used to be tied to side of boat with rope on 2x4's, it was really embarrasing. and bunks were just 2x4s laying on trailer.
pic 5

trailer was only 12 feet and boat is 14, so it hung off the back about 4 feet. motor had to be removed every time we launched and moved and carried in the boat laying down, what a pain.

42" of 3x3 steel tubing was added to front of trailer to make proper length and i recieved a winch stand and roller from neighbor who threw out old 12 foot trailer. repainted it and now you cant even tell. i also added a 600 lb winch and winch strapp from west marine.

motor is a 1988 evinrude 14HP. i honestly dont know crap about this thing in way of its origin. some say its a canadian model, some says its commercial model. who knows?
pic 6

i took carb off and cleaned and installed new champion q447c plugs and a new zinc. runs excelent! had to cut a pair of regular muffs to fit since it has old style lower unit.

origonall owners painted motor with walmart white house paint. i have since painted over it with white engine primer and the hood with the same blue interlux paint as the boat.

i have yet to take her out and test my work, but it looks so clean and new id hate to get her dirty:)

ANY AND ALL COMMENTS APRECIATED. NOT BAD FOR 50 BUCKS !

Looks good!!
Don't cry when you spill the worm can on that nice carpet.

Keep an eye on those pvc light posts. They can really get to vibrating and oscillating back and forth. Can pound on the boat and also break the filaments. You can hook a bungee between the tops of the two of them to stop the movement. (from experience)

OK, now pack it up and go fishing. :)

Love it! Anything you can get for cheap and fix nicely is always better than spending extra. You also have the pride and satisfaction of knowing things are done right. Great job!
