Complicated Carb Questions?

I have a 1978 70 HP Johnson. I've taken my carbs apart and I'm not sure what parts need to be soaked in cleaner? What type of cleaner should I use? Is it OK for the linkage that is attached to the carb to be soaked? Also how important is it to have the float adjusted correctly? When I was removing the middle carb out of the three, as I pulled the fuel line that runs from the fuel pump to the bottom of the carb some type of nipple valve or someting that was attached to the carb and hose broke, half of it is sticking in the hose and the rest looks like it may be in the carb. Does anybody know what this is and how drastic this fix is? Thanks, Tim.

Re: Complicated Carb Questions?

Hey fsutim....

When I clean carbs, I use carb&choke cleaner followed up with compressed air. I pull the core plugs, the round ones not the the lead shots, and hose out all passages with choke cleaner, again followed up with compressed air.

The float level is extremely important. It keeps the bowl full without flooding. To set the float, make sure the needle is in place and flip the body upside down. Set the float level with the carb body, just a hair high in front.

The thingy ya' broke is the gas inlet nipple. Choices are, try and glue it back together which probably won't hold or try and find another bowl.

Hope we've helped.
