I'm new at this boating stuff. Just got my first boat last week. 1978 150hp v6 evinrude outboard. According to the previous owner it had been sitting for about a year. From advice from this forum I learned how to test the compression. This is what I have found looking at the back of motor:
93/100
95/100
92/96
Are these acceptable? Also I have been able to run the engine, although only at idle. If I engage the drive and give it gas, it bogs down and dies. This is on old gas, however. I have just learned that I should drain the gas and get new. I have purchased a manual and am going to attempt to rebuild the carbs. Is this something I can do myself?
Thanks in advance

Yes. those numbers are fine! And yes, remove and rebuild the Carbs. It's well within your talent to do them, if you are Mech. inclined at all! Just go slowly, have a clean working area and follow the Manual carefully. If you get stuck or don't understand something, just post it here and I'm sure other's will be happy to help. Good Luck,
