compression check

what should the compression be on a 1989 evinrude xp i have heard so many things not sure what it is and what should it be after a rebuilt

Each cylinder should be within 10% of each other and a lot of compression testers are not overly accurate so if you can check with a couple of them and compare. Post your results.

ok but if someone rebuilds it what should my compression be 80 90 100 110 what would be good because im getting it done and i want a good job

If compression is as kennyfam suggests most outboards will run fairly well down to 90 psi or so. We would like to see compression in the 110-120 range for crossflow V4s. I have 2 1987s & compression is around 105-110 lbs.

I have 2 compression testers and my 140hp looper reads 135lb on all 4 cylinders on one of them and 120lb on the other one.
Which one if either are correct I do not know but I do know that all cylinders are currently even and the motor is running like a charm.
