I am looking to buy a used outboard and found an interesting one but I have no idea on these numbers. Please advise.
1999 Johnson V4 60° 90Hp.
compression cold 135-145psi
compression hot 120-130psi

Is this engine still ok or what should be replaced to have it in perfect condition again ? (new pistons)

Thanks in advance.
Stef

If those numbers are the range for all 4 cylinders the compression is excellent in that engine.

Before you buy it, remove the bottom (drain) plug from the gearcase and be sure there isn't water in there.

Good luck. :)

My mechanic told me mine was 120, and it was very good, my motor is a 1987
