Re: compression question thanx

Put the throttle to wide open throttle and pull and ground all of the plugs. make sure that the battery is in good condition and fully charged. Then turn the engine over until it get to the highest reading, probably 4-5 revolutions.

Re: compression question thanx

actually i see nothing wrong with them, they are within 10 % of each other, i would do a decarb, and see if they change.

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

afterwards compression.recheck

Re: compression question thanx

With those numbers, I'd be a whole lot more worried about the lower unit. those l.units can be as much as a new powerhead!
Hope you get a good one..:)

I don't see anything wrong with them either, but he was asking about doing the comperssion test. I certainly would not run from those numbers. I guess when its your money you get a little gun shy and want to be reassured.

Having the throttles open or closed on a two stroke won't make any difference in the results of your compression test; just be sure that all of the spark plugs are out and that the battery is fully charged. Pull the emergency kill lanyard to suppress fire.

What Ezeke said about the throttles. They have no measurable effect.

As I said in your other thread the big V6s often read in the 90s when in excellent shape.

It is okay, Junior. No worries. Go fishing. :)
