77 v6 175 after a long run, warm engine
#1-75
#2-6 110-115
1 oz oil added to #1 reading jumps to 120.
Is this a ring issue? Would a decarb help diagnose problem.
Whats involved in ring replacement?

Re: Compression/rings?

Usually when you add oil to the cylinder and the compression comes up it indicates a ring problem.
A decarb might help, it can't hurt anything.
To replace the rings you are going to have to tear the engine down, remove the pistons, and replace the rings.

No tear down is needed for a decarb job. Get a can of Engine Tune from any E/J dealer and follow the directions, concentrating on the low cylinder naturally.

Yes!

Remove powerhead, split crankcase, remove rod bolts, remove head.

Better get a manual!

How much tearing down is involved? Full removal of powerhead?

Pull the head first & see what it looks like-
Just went thru the same thing on a Johnson 115 & found scared cylinder :(
One step at a time
