I have the HF compression tester and it works well. Got 105 in all 3 cylinders. You just have to make sure you have the right attachment on it. The first time I used it, I had some extension piece on it and it didn't work. I think I wound up using it with no attachment at all. Motor has to be warmed up before testing compression. Remove all spark plugs and then zero the tester and put it into one of the holes and turn the key. You may have to turn the key a few times to pump it up to the full reading. Once you get it to its full reading, no matter how many times you turn the key, it will not go any higher. At that point, that's your true compression reading.
Also, if compression is low, try squirting some oil into the cylinder (probably TCW-3), then work it in by running the motor for a few seconds, then try again. Too little oil can cause low compression.
