Re: Compression

Thank you!!!! My next ? is how hard would it be to replace a evinrude 150 on a nitro 180 91' 16 foot with that mercury 150. It has a 20" shaft. He is looking for another serial # for the year

Re: Compression

Robert, Replacing the evinrude with that merc is a function of the years of each motor. The bolt patterns for the outboards have been standardized as of now, however the older motors were non standard. Look at your evinrude. If it has four 1/2 inch bolts holding it to the boat, it might be a standard bolt pattern. Now c/o the Merc for the same pattern. A ruler would cinch it.

Re: Compression

It does haver the the 4 hole on it (The evinrude) . so where should the plate hit in relation to the bottom of the boat. Is there anyway to know if the 20" shaft will work. The mercury is coming with the boat so i can get all the controls is the steering cables common oldre boats?

Re: Compression

The steering cable should have a common hook up, or will be esily modifiable. Merc controls fix a wide range of motor years, but are incompatable with OMC and vice versa.

Generally, the Antiventilation plate will be even with or just above the bottom of the hull. I would think the Evenrude should be at least a 20" shaft. It might be 25" shaft, which may cause you some grief if the transom is 25" and the merc is 20" shaft.

Re: Compression

Measure from inside transom bracket to A-V plate. it will be about 15", 20" or 25".
