I keep getting this error mesaage. Page fault in module KERNAL 32.DLL. at 015f:bff9dba7. If I wipe harddrive clean and reload(win98 second ed upgrade 2 discs) when I try to load the second disc I keep getting this error. I using win 98 only now, still getting this error, is this a software, or hardware problem. Scratch on disc? Am I asking the right question?

Re: Computer

try this

>Please could some explain to me why every now and again my computer
>crashes and it says it has a run kerndel32.dll error what is a
>kernel32.dll and can I get rid of it.

Kernal32.dll is the heart of Windows, so you can't get rid of it :)

The "kernal" is the central program of the operating system. DOS, all=
versions of Windows, Unix, all versions of Linux, etc. all have a kernal.=
The kernal32.dll file is the 32-bit kernal for Windows from Windows 95 on.

Because it is so central to everything Windows does, you'll frequently get=
error messages reported in kernal32.dll, even when the actual error was=
caused by some other program.

The Windows knowledge base at http://windows.support.com has numerous=
examples of kernal32.dll error messages and what their possible causes=
are. You can look up the exact error message you're getting, or post it=
here and one of us can try to help you troubleshoot it.

Can you identify some common element to the errors? In other words, do you=
get the error while running the same program every time or after doing a=
particular thing? What is the exact error message you're getting?

Also, we need to know the version of Windows you're running.

Re: Computer

Let's try again. Hit wrong button, lost long text.

If you mean you formatted the drive and reinstalled Win 98, then you probably have a hardware issue. Memory or processor. If not, then try formatting the hard drive to replace the boot files. Probably won't help, but I have seen a lto of odd things.

If unit has run 98 before, hardware issue likely if clean install. If not, then update your BIOS and have your chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer. While loading. I don't know if it gets that far.

Memory troubleshooting. Power off and unplug for 30 seconds. Ground yourself on case. Take some memory out. Not all. Try the load. If it still fails, swap the memory you took out and the stuff you had in. Try different sockets if you motherboard supports it. Some need to have memory in certain slots or unit will not run.

Processor troubleshooting is tough without a boot disk with diags. Since you don't have a computer it is hard to prepare now. If the computer is worth fixing, then go to a repair shop and have them run diags on the processor. If not, then maybe it is time to upgrade to a new computer and operating system, good Luck.

Re: Computer

Clanton, I build my own. I know what I am getting. Don't get a low end HP or Compaq. The business class are fine, but the home versions are not. Dell does have some good machines, but you also have to watch the low end. there are two ways of looking at it. If you go cheap, then you don't have to worry if it goes belly up because your not out anything, or you can say, I want minimal problems so I will spend more wisely. For my purposes, last year I spent $1k on each of the two I built. They were not top end, but close and met my needs. I have not had a lick of problems and don't expect to.

A place called BCD2000 is a good place to design your own at a resonable price. They will build it for you
BCD2000

I don't work for them, but have bought a couple things and they seem stable. I actually service HP/Compaq and IBM Business class. We refuse to touch the home class because they are just problems.

If your printer and scanner are still working, and your monitor is good, keep them. The things I would say to replace are anything that has an ISA card (Opposed to a PCI card) or needs a serial port usually is good to get rid of, but if it works and fits your needs, keep it.
