I have seen some comments about not cracking the engine without all plugs installed and grounded to the engine. The comments state that damage to could or electronic ignition components could occur. I apologize, I don't have any more specific info than that. However, I want to check the spark timing on my 115 L6, 1988, but I'm hesitant to pull all the plugs except the #1 plug to set the timing. Any clarification and wisdom is appreciated.

Those are comments..not facts.
Im new to this forum an asked a question. Unfortunately, many ”comments“ also were useless. Ask about a leak and someone here will ask “what color is the boat.” Shame so many lack “comprehension“skills! Best of luck with your issue! Log onto other forums…

Leave all the plugs in. Warm up the engine, then check timing while the engine is running. What color is the boat?

Hi Capt!

many thanks for the suggestion! Have a friend, much better verse in these matters (also has a timing light) coming over this weekend. We’ll get it checked out and running well again I’m sure. Wish me luck!
