looking at 20 foot Penn Yan- got great advise so far- Thanks
I just want to confirm that the powerplant is genuine Mercruiser (the colour is right, and parts look genuine (except alternator and starter which I will replace with the real-deal)

What do I look for on the block to make sure that it is not an automotive transplant with Mercruiser add ons.

Any advise on the alternator, starter- they work well is there a way of retrofitting them to meet Marine specs?

The the Mercruiser serial number off the tag on the rear of the block just above the starter.
Post it here, and I can tell you what boat the engine is supposed to be in.
