Confused about my serial number

I have a 2001 (I think) mercury 25hp 2 stroke.

The serial number on the motor is 0c231703.

When looking for parts etc. I can't find any serial numbers with a "C" in it. Getting to be a pain.

Can anyone help me with this serial number?

I believe you are correct. The guy I bought it from told me it was a 2001 model. He lost title so I couldn't verify it at the time.
