Confused about riser gasket installation procedure

Hi. I have been mining the forums and am more confused than ever on the proper installation technique for the "new" volvo OEM riser gaskets. These are the thin metal gaskets with the ridges. The instructions say to install dry but I have seen several posts referencing a service bulletin to use copper spray gasket maker. Is this bulletin applicable to the gaskets I am describing or a previous style gasket with the same part number? Do I or do I not use the copper spray stuff with these gaskets? Thanks for the clarification.

There was a TSB that came out several years ago that added using the Copper Gasket Sealer to the OEM gaskets. I use Permatex Copper Coat Spray on the Riser and Manifold, allow 10 min of set up time then place the gasket on the manifold and set the riser. I torque to 25 ft pounds. I will check/retorque after 1st outing. Never an issue.

I followed the OEM instructions that say "Do Not Use Sealer" - 100+ hours in and everything seems fine.

Thanks for the replies guys. After some more research this morning I finally decided to use the permatex copper spray. I based this decision on the fact that the instructions with my gasket "kit" were printed in 2008 and the service bulletin recommending the copper spray was issued in 2010. I installed this morning and will wait until tomorrow for everything to setup and do a sea trial. I torqued to 30 ft lbs (per the instructions) and will re-torque after the first heat cycle and then again after a few more heat cycles. I will let ya'll know results...

took boat out yesterday and there are no external leaks. Appears everything is working as it is supposed to be.
