Confused on the correct oil rating for air cooled outboards

I have read that I should be using a 2 stroke oil specifically for air cooled engines, as opposed to standard marine 2 stroke oil, but I am trying to figure out if the air cooled 2 stroke oil has a different designation-and what it is.

I bought some "Penzoil premium plus 2 cycle synthetic blend Outboard engine oil" carrying the TC-W3 designation. I dont know if its the air cooled stuff but I thought the synthetic blend would give it good high temp film strength after my bad experience with the sears 2 stroke oil.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Confused on the correct oil rating for air cooled outboards

Without exception my 6 aftermarket service manuals covering various air cooled outboard motors 55-89 reccomend outboard oil.My Citgo TCW3 rated container says 2 cycle oil for outboards, snow mobiles, motorcycles, chainsaws,
string trimmers, and lawnmowers. There are certain high performance 2 strokes
that require special.high performance oils. Its my opinion that any TCW, TCW3 or quality 2 stroke oil will work.
I don't think a hard working chain saw or a aircooled motor cycle in
hot summer traffic is any cooler or as cool as a Eska with forced air cooling and a water cooled exhaust.
