Confused?

In search of any advice, on my 1995 omc cobra engine, I was reversing & ran over the tow rope got it untangled & now it won't go in reverse, it also starts in forward. Any ideas?

did you try forcing it when the rope was tangled? if so, you may have stretched the shift cable or damaged the control.
