I had posted some questions about a clacking noise coming from the top of my engine... probably a lifter problem.
Someone told me that if I pushed the pushrod into the lifter and it moved 1/8" it was bad. None of the lifters showed such a problem.
I bought 6 new lifters and everyone of them can be pushed 1/8".
Did I get bad info??? Should the lifter give 1/8" or what?
I have been working on this problem for weeks and would like to get it fixed..once and for all.
Somebody please give me some realtime info.
Puleeeeeez.
Thanks,
Skip

You need to adjust your lifters. The proper method is to get some clips for your rockers to keep the oil from flinging everywhere. You should be able to get them from any real auto parts store. Crank up your engine and loosen each lifter till you here it clicking. Then turn the nut down till it stops. the n tighten the nut 3/4 of a turn after that. Perform the process for all lifters giving the engine time to smooth out after each adjustment. If you are still getting clatter I would think you have either oil pressure issues or sticking valves. The depressing 1/8th of an inch is bogus info. It the system hasn't pumped up the lifter your going to be able to slighly compress the unit.

my IL6 has made some noise on the top end for years, but it still runs good. i haven't read your other posts yet. is the noise excessively loud? how does the engine run? sometimes we hear a noise or someone comments on a noise and it gets into our head that something is wrong and it really isn't.

hello
look up some of the posts I made to affa.
the procedure is simple and does not require the engine running so no oil mess.
good luck and keep posting
