The tilt/trim circuit is a three wire circuit out of motor, colors are red/purple, green/white, and blue/white. About 5 feet from motor is a 3 pin plug. When these wires get to the console, there are 4 wires because the blue/white is spliced with a purple/white. So my question is, how do I connect these wires to a toggle switch so i can have up and down at the console. The colors at console where toggle switch will be located are blue/white-purple/white, green/white, and red/purple. I know that green/white is down and blue/white is up but I need clarification on how to connect these wires to a toggle switch. All help will be greatly appreciated! Happy Boating and let the good times roll!

Green = grass = Down
Blue = sky = Up
Red = Power

Use these (standard) colors for comparison only....
Your POs repairs may be different.

The typical console or dash switch is upside-down in action from its terminals. THUS: You connect red to the center terminal, green to the top terminal and blue to the bottom. Now, when you press up, the trim will move up or out. Not sure what purple/white does. Don't ignore it. Be certain it is not shorted somewhere. Trace it. If it is not terminated on something simply cap and insulate it.

Is it a factory splice or did someone do it aftermarket?

you need two wires from switch to engine.
blue for up and green for down. these wikll connect to your up and down solenoids (or relays).

you need three wires to swuitch
5A fused positive (this is usually drawn from "ignition on" side of main fuse panel)
blue output to engine
green output to engine

if your system has a trim position sensor then that is a separate circuit
