Re: considering 2000 225 optimax ?

My bro-in law went thru 3 opti's under warranty before hurricane Ivan wiped his boat out. I learned several things thru his pain:
1. Merc has great product support, replaced all 3 at no charge.
2. If you need this support, you may not see your boat during the fishing season, becauuse every one else needs help then also.

If you buy an opti outside the warranty periodm, the repairs on you. Opti's get great mileage when they work.
But, I'll take a carbed model or EFI over that 1999/2000 year opti every time.
Good luck.

I have a 1999 Optimax 225 and have terrible problems with it staying out of the alarm/protection mode. Have you had any similar issues.

I'm supposed to listen to it run and take comprssion test saturday . it was made in 99 registered as a 2000 in 2003 for warranty by original owner , only hose fitting replaced under warranty according to merc web site , the present owner says he trolls 80% so thats why he put new injectors and went to a 4 stroke. opti's seem real high maintenance , 18 dollar plugs upper end batteries , hard to get to plugs . I'm slowing down on this thanks to this input.

Run, Forest, run! If the powerhead hasn't blown, it will ... and you'll get to pay for it. There's a reason that vintage is called "opti-pop" ...
