Considering a Johnson 9.9 4 stroke, but.....

I'm thinking of buying a Jon boat with a 9.9 Johnson 4 stroke, but I don't know the year. It has an OMC tag on it, but I also know that Bombadier now makes Johnson. My question is, if the motor runs good (which it does), should I have any major concerns over who actually built the motor? And any guess to the year?

On that tag that has OMC on it there's model & serial number in it.

During the 90s OMC built its own 9.9 and 15 4 strokes.<br /><br />I had a 9.9. Good engine.

Thank you, I ran the motor last night and it purrs, it was last serviced about 6 months ago, so anything else I should be conserned about?

When OMC came out with the 9.9/15 4 stroke ,it was a good move and a good engine.But I had many with ignition modules that went bad.Then bad again.Then bad again on the same engine.Two customers even bought spare modules,to stay on the water.<br />That was back pre-1999.<br />I can't remember the last module I put in,so they got better.<br />You don't tell what you are looking into,so this is about all I can think to include.<br /><br />DHP<br />tell us more if you can
