When I turn my key switch "on", my Mercury outboard alarm sounds. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold. I assume it's my oil warning module. Is there any way of metering this part to determine if it's defective. I was looking for an alternative to swapping out the part.

A constant alarm is temp and beeping is oil. Discount the overheat sensor and turn the key. If the horn sounds it's the warning module and if it does not sound it's the overheat sensor. If the horn then beeps it's the warning module.

if it is a constant beeping then either the warning module is faulty or you are low on oil,if it's the latter it's just a matter of topping up, making sure that there is no air in the lines.<br />What is the year and model of your motor?

It's a 1999 125hp Mercury Offshore series. There's plenty of oil in the engine. Is there anyway of diagnosing the warning module without replacing it?

Disconect the overheat sensor and turn the key. If the horn sounds it's the warning module and if it does not sound it's the overheat sensor. If the horn then beeps it's the warning module.

I know the warning module is the black box below the starter that has five wire coming out of it. However, I'm not sure where the overheat sensor is located.
