constant alarm problem ..200 merc 2.4L

suddenly the alarm is goin off. <br />beep beep beep beep ..<br />theres a loss of power .. seems like only one side is firing... could a bad switchbox cause the alarm to go on??<br />i noticed the starboard head was hot and port side quite cool..<br />great water flow...oil levels ok..<br /><br />its a 200 merc 2.4 L 1988 outboard<br />any suggestions??

over heat sensor is on the starboard head and would cause a constant beeeeeeeeep, oil inj failure will cause a beep beep beep. check starboard thermostat for clogs/proper operation. Yes, a switchbox failure could cause the oil alarm beep beep beep because the green sensor wire from the "lubalert module" goes to the outer switchbox which fires the port bank of cyl. If replacing switchboxes, replace both units with aftermarket ones from CDI/Rapair.

Pull the oil pump, inspect the gear on the pump for the presence of plastic shavings...<br /><br />Let us know...

Check for spark on all the cylinders... Run on pre-mix until you find the culprit...

ok i did a quick check today ... i have no spark on any cylinder on the port ..(thats the right side if im facing the engine ) can a lube alarm take out the switchbox ??? some safety feature maybe??

No, but a failed switchbox can set off the oil alarm.
