Re: contemplating buying1995 112hp V4 evinrude to replane my1988 johnson,

I have a 1996 88 Spl(same motor with different carbs and exhaust I think) and love it. Was not running when I got it. Put new fuel lines on it(all the lines, under the cowl included), rebuilt carbs, and had to replace a coil so I replaced all four. Ran great until the stator went out(have no idea on the total hours) so I found a new/used one and engine runs great. Thought long and hard at the beginning about upgrading but after one complete season I will keep this motor until its just wears out. Easy to repair and parts are easy to find.

Find a set of 110 carbs and install and enjoy the extra 10 hp.. depending on boat/hull type you will see 1-4mph increase

If your mtr is running good now save yourself the time and money to put the 110 carbs on it. I doubt if you'll get 3-4 mph more.

What is your boat rated for is the question. 2nd question should be what are you doing with this boat? Is more hp warrented?

Not to hijack the thread, but your saying that changing just the carbs on the 1988 will possibly increase top end 1-4 mph? I have an the 1996 88hp spl. I have heard there is really no short cut to making more hp on it. Swaping carbs seems to easy.
