So I have a 1984 Renken 950 Cuddy. I just got it recently and got stranded once because I ciuldn't get the control box into neutral. I had a mechanic come out the next week and he adjusted it, tightened it up I guess and it flt like a brand new box. Unfortunaely that didn't last long...last weekend it slipped again and neutral ended up at about the 7 o'clock position (normally at 12 o'clock) I managed to manhandle it back to around the right spot but it's very difficult to use.
So the question, I have been looking all week trying to find info on how this part of a boat works, and see if maybe I understood it, maybe I could manage the rest of the summer on the lake and replace it this winter. Where can I find this info? Is there some website that breaks it down so that I understand the parts? Someway of even knowing the make and model of this particular control box? Any tips? Can I oil it (or wd-40) tighten it? Adjust it? if so how?
