WHen I recently installed my 2000 model 150HP Johnson with the included control box, I have an issue when I put the engine in reverse. When it goes into reverse I have idle speed and nothing else. The lever wont go down any further. When I use the fast idle in the box, I have the full range of motion in reverse. I have adjusted the shift cable back at the motor but it does not help. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Do you have the throttle and gear cables switched in the box?

It works correctly in forward. I have double check the connections and they are right.

Hello James.....

A little confusion here....you said in your post that when you use the fast idle in the box you have the full range of motion in reverse. Could you explain that a little? With the box in either forward or reverse, you should not be able to move the fast idle lever. If you can, the problem is in the box. There was an issue with a part in the box, have to look it up, that would wear out or break and was replaced by a beefed up version. Lemme look when I get to the shop and I'll let ya'know this morning.....unless one of the other guys can jump in with the info.

Re: Control Box issues

james
there was a recall on certain boxes due to warm up lever problems. look under the warm up lever for a white tag. if the numbers are still readable you can take them to any BRP dealer and have the numbers verified if your box is part of the recall. if the numbers are gone your out of luck and on your own. with the warm up lever up you cant shift, if you can there is a box problem. with the throttle handle advanced to a shift position you cant move the warm up lever. if you can there is a box problem.

Re: Control Box issues

The issue was with the shift lock out lever in the box. One of the tabs would break. The current lock out levers have been beefed up.

The warmup lever works like it is supposed to. I can rev the motor using the fast idle feature either in the forward or reverse direction. When I put the motor in gear, everything works correctly in forward but in reverse it goes into gear and the lever will not move further than idle speed. When it goes into gear, thats all I get.

Re: Control Box issues

Try this test. Move your control lever into forward gear at wot. Then slowly start moving it back towards the nuetral postion, at the same time watch the throttle and shift linkages on the boat motor. There should be a delay on the shifting as you move the trottle back towards neutral. If it begins to shift as you move the throttle off of wot then most likely the problem lies with in the control box. You may have some worn parts or simply need an adjustment.
