I posted my problem with my sensor alarm yesterday and I found the problem. It's a 1987 90 hp Mercury outboard and what I did was put a coat hanger down in the oil tank and was moving it around and it stopped the alarm. I then saw two wires coming out of the bottom of the oil tank and when I moved them to a certain position the alarm stopped.I was wondering if the fix for this is you have to buy a new oil tank and it comes with everything including the wires coming out of the bottom of the tank and the sensor in the tank. Thanks,Rodney

You got that one right.

The sensor in the tank is broken. The position of the wires that makes the alarm stop is when the circuit to that broken tank switch is broken. Replacing the tank fixes the switch. Figure out the broken wire problem also.

hope it helps

Thanks alot. Atleast I know now I can drive it until I get it fixed as long as I keep an eye on the oil level. Thanks,Rodney

The sensor is removable from the tank and should be available separately if that's all that's wrong.

However, you'll want to make sure the pesky magnet hasn't come unglued from the float inside the tank. If so, the tank is shot. If you do end up getting the tank you might as well buy a new sensor with it, they're not that expensive. Sorry can't say the same for the tank!........ed
